Keep Your European Car Running This Summer

We’re currently sitting on the cusp of summer. And while the weather has already gotten warmer and the plans of enjoying it have already begun to be formulated, there are some necessary precautions that need to be taken as well. Sure, there’s your AC and having the city flooded with the throngs of teenagers, but we’re referring to your car. The summer sun can be unforgiving, and before the temperatures start to rise, there are a few things you should do to prepare your European import for the summer weather…

Check Your Tire Pressure and Structural Integrity

While the temperature drop during the winter can be excruciating, the summer months can also wreak havoc on the outside of your tires. Before you take that road trip during the summer months, it’s important to check your wheels. Make sure they’re filled properly and free of any noticeable soft spots. If you’re unsure of their present condition, take your car in for a tune-up.

Fill Up Oil and Other Fluids

There’s a lot to be aware of whenever the summer hits. When it comes to your car, coolant, oil, and brake fluid are essential. Your engine is a mass of moving parts that rely on oil to keep them lubricated and running efficiently without breaking down. Similarly, your brakes operate by the use of friction and making sure that they have enough fluid ensures that they properly work.

Check Your Coolant System

This is one of the most important parts of our summer to-do list. Your coolant system not only allows your AC to keep you cool, but it keeps your radiator and engine from overheating. Before it gets too warm, check the coolant level, and that all belts and hoses are attached and not leaking.

Battery Check

If you end up taking your car in for a pre-summer tune-up, it’s important that the mechanics check the battery and alternator. The alternator allows your battery to remain operational, and having either break when you’re in the middle of a drive in the summer heat can spell catastrophe.
